The latest SAFCOIN happenings
By TEAM SAFCOIN • May 27, 2019

Wow, it’s winter here in SA already, time flies when you're having fun! The crypto space has been on a positive trend after a long bear market. It’s exciting to see the market adoption of blockchain and cryptocurrencies in South Africa and Africa respectively and we’ve been quite busy with some interesting meetings ourselves, including attending the Blockchain Africa 2019 Conference - with the participation of Western Cape government, embracing blockchain.
Recently, we were invited to an exclusive blockchain and crypto meeting with Western Cape Minister Beverly Schäfer, Premier Helen Zille and Chief Economist for the Provincial Government, Nezaam Joseph. Safcoin was part of a key first meeting at the African Blockchain conference held at the ICC Cape Town on 6 March 2019. Then Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille and Minister of Economic Opportunities, Beverley Schäfer both gave keynote addresses focusing on the possibilities blockchain technology holds for the Western Cape. The message was clear, Western Cape Government will back the ongoing movement into the blockchain and crypto space and want to work in a “sandbox” environment with private and public sectors for development and establishing a regulatory framework.
We were completely delighted when we got a personal invite to a dinner evening at the Premier's official residence with a few selected blockchain market leaders for a brainstorming evening and wow, have we got some talented, gifted entrepreneurs in the crypto space. Read more over at SA Crypto.
With the Western Cape looking at entering the world of blockchain, the South African Reserve bank came with another positive move when they announced the possibility to tokenize the Rand. Interesting times ahead! These moments are pivotal in the history of blockchain history and mass adoption in Africa.
In May, SAFCOIN was hosted by the Swiss embassy in Cape Town along with other industry players for a blockchain event to learn more about how a small town in Switzerland named ZUG became the world's crypto valley. It was an insightful day with Mathias Ruch, CEO and Founder of Crypto Valley Venture Capitalists (CVVC) providing all with valuable information on Venture Capital investment, token types and the future of blockchain in general. The next few years are going to be revolutionary for Africa and it is an exciting time to be part of the movement to dramatically enhance Africa, technologically.
